Callery Pear Tree Removal
Why Remove Callery Pear Trees?
What many homeowners don’t realize is that Callery Pear trees are an invasive species that outcompete native plants for resources. Including species like Bradfor pear, Cleveland Select, Aristocrat, and Chanticleer, these trees were initially praised for being sterile. However, cross-pollination with other cultivars, such as Bradford Pear trees, has led to a rapid spread in the wild. Callery Pear tree species dominate open fields, where they form dense monocultures that prevent native plants from thriving.✓ Highly invasive – They spread rapidly through seed dispersal.
✓ Weak-wooded – They are prone to splitting in storms.
✓ Harmful to native biodiversity – They disrupt the eco-system food chain
✓ Short Lifespan – Lives only 15–25 years, requiring constant pruning and cleanup.
✓ Foul Odor – Spring blooms are notoriously smelly.
✓ Low Wildlife Value – Provides little food or habitat for native species.
✓ Banned in Some Areas – Prohibited in Ohio and South Carolina due to invasiveness.
If unchecked, these fast-spreading trees can transform healthy forests and grasslands into ecological wastelands. Removing them not only improves your property’s health and safety but also helps restore Indiana’s native landscape.
